‘Tina’ with green eyes, is one of the artist’s smaller paintings, and the effect the colour has on the viewer is both optical and sense stimulating.
The vibrant, yellow colour is energizing. There are several general psychological meanings and effects of the colour yellow, according to colour therapists. Perhaps Tina was an intellectual and generous person. Goethe, the eighteenth century poet, scholar and scientist, said yellow is a joyful and tenderly attractive colour.
Yellow has been teamed with touches of orange and red, (all analogous colours that are side by side on the colour wheel), so they work well together, naturally. The purplish shadow to the left of Tina’s face, complements her yellow face and hair.
The artist applied swift brushstrokes to the canvas when painting Tina’s hair, and it looks loose and natural. Tina’s oversized, messy, overpainted lips are typical of the artist’s style. A small amount of paint splattering, and the orange-red dab of paint in the right hand corner of the painting add interest, and ‘match’ Tina’s messy lipstick.
