In this ethereal painting, the artist had an opportunity to express his love of colour.
The first focal connection is the subject’s face. The artist has placed his ‘signature’ on this canvas, as he does on many others, by painting blue goggles and brightly, coloured lips.
It is a well-structured composition. There is constant light and energy. Shapes are smoothly outlined, including the stainless steel connection links on his jumpsuit.
Within the splash of colours, orange and blue complement each other, and red, violet and purple add variation. Yellow tints soften the subject’s hair. There is an absence of dark colours in this painting, and it is almost wildly musical and youthful. Cool greens and blues are in harmony with each other. The white, determined strokes of paint on the canvas are indicative of the artist’s character.
The painting has a rubbed appearance in some parts. When applying paint to the surface of the canvas, the artist may have used a palette knife. The painting is well textured.
The mood of this painting is one of joy.
