This is an uncomplicated painting of Nana. She is in a formal pose, and the artist has placed her just off centre on the canvas, to help the viewer’s focus.
Pictures are typically found on the walls of grandmothers’ homes, and Nana is no different. Some of the pictures are transparent.
A tinted, violet and grey coloured background, has been teamed with a complementary colour, yellow. Without the bold yellow colours, the painting would lack energy. A vase of red flowers harmonises well with the purple colours that are used throughout the painting, and the colours of the flowers pick up the hues on Nana’s rainbow-coloured dress. The painting is slightly textured.
The mood is a happy one.
