McNamara (62 x 45 cm)

This is a slightly ‘primitive’ painting of the artist’s earthy friend, McNamara.

The subject has been placed right of centre to balance the painting, and the initial focal point is his upper body and face. The viewer’s eye then travels across the painting studying the secondary items on the table.

Tints of analogous hues, (colours side by side on the colour wheel), have been used in small amounts.

Cool blue and green colours relate harmoniously, and are in contrast to the orange skin tones. Red-violet tints shape the table and the painting on the wall. The table top reflects the grey background and there is an illusion of distance.

Attention to detail was not overlooked. McNamara has a cigarette in his hand and a big smile on his face.

The mood is relaxed and welcoming.

Acrylic on Masonite, date unknown. (Cleaned and framed.)
