Figure Head (49 x 64 cm)

Figure Head is a very harmonious painting.

A female figure head was often placed on a ship’s prow as a protective measure against storm and strife. In this painting Athena, the goddess of war, is ironically depicted as a figure head sailing through a sea of peaceful dolphins.

The artist has concentrated on aesthetics and used soft, gentle colours. This is in keeping with the nature of dolphins and the calm water. The aqua-blue colours of the water are softly blended, and the shape of the lady is outlined with a soft, contrasting lemon colour. The soft colours of her armoured form and her skin tones are reflected in various parts of the painting, and this ties the painting together.

The figure head is placed in the central position on the canvas, and the curves of her body are repeated in the curves of the dolphin’s fins.

The artist placed adequate space around the main object and the secondary objects so that the painting appears well balanced.

There is visual harmony in this painting. This is a very unusual painting.
