Dogs figured prominently in the artist’s life and here his dog, Rusty, is sitting at the door, on what seems to be a sunny day. He is licking his paw.
The purple coloured wall, or curtain, is in contrast to the yellow floors. Warm, red-purple and orange-brown colours, have been used in many of the artist’s paintings, and they are used in this painting that portrays Rusty. The dog appears quite close to the viewer. A touch of green colour picks up on the yellow colour of the front room, and cools the painting.
This is a simple and very effective painting of the artist’s contented dog.
Acrylic on Masonite, date unknown. (Cleaned and framed)
