Crown of Jesus (61 x 45.5 cm)

This semi-abstract impression of the face of Jesus Christ when He was hanging on the cross, requires little explanation.

The artist has portrayed a look of despair on His face very well, and it is haunting. The crown of thorns that had been placed on Jesus’s head obviously caused bleeding, and the artist used many tones of red to portray this. Jagged red and blue-violet brushstrokes emphasize the uneasiness of the situation.

Jesus’s face has been painted in orange to show reflected light on a passing body. The artist used a combination of complementary colours, (colours opposite each other on the colour wheel), to increase the impact of the theme.

Acrylic on Masonite, date unknown.
