Crowded (63 x 47 cm)

In this colour related, abstract painting, harmonious blue circles are outstanding in a group of shapes. Gold dabs of paint have been placed strategically to lead the viewer’s eye around the canvas. They add balance and energy. The blue and gold colours complement each other.

While the main focus is on the central, horizontal third, one’s eye is constantly drawn to the smoothly drawn blue circle on the upper left hand side. The paint flows freely down the canvas from the circle, forming a visible vertical line, one third across the painting. Meanwhile, an odd, geometric, blue shape in the top left corner adds interest, as do other shapes in the back row.

The mood is mixed. Perhaps this abstract is representative of a group photo where the important figures are placed in the middle row and are surrounded by expressive, supportive others. What does a circle symbolize for you?

Acrylic on Masonite, date unknown. (Cleaned and framed.)
