Colourful Chaos (57 x 30 cm)

This inspiring, abstract painting was created using an analogous colour palette, i.e. colours side by side on the colour wheel. The warm orange and yellow colours used in the central part of the painting make the composition seem close to the viewer. They also give the painting a beautifully harmonious, musical feel, and their brightness gives strong energy to the painting.

To balance the painting, some transparent white paint (light) has been placed carefully, just off centre in the middle section and foreground of the painting. Brushstrokes have been applied loosely and swiftly, in a relaxed manner. However, the darker shades that were applied in the background suggest that there was some degree of conflict at the commencement of the painting. This was overcome as overlapping layers of lighter and brighter colours were painted over the darker shades. It resulted in an interesting, textured centre.

Acrylic on Masonite, date unknown. (Cleaned and framed.)
