This profile of an aboriginal person, though simply done is effective. The head is placed off centre to balance the painting and enhance the visual experience.
The artist used a heavily loaded, round brush to apply thick paint to create the shape of the head. By using a clean, damp, round brush he then removed some paint in order to show lines, facial features and to give the painting a textured appearance.
The softly coloured, slightly patterned background is in contrast to the dark face, and it highlights the shape of the head. The touches of yellow paint add light and energy to the painting.
Acrylic on Masonite, date unknown. (Cleaned and framed.)
