My Saviour (30 x 25 cm)
This very simple painting of Christ on the cross at Calvary, is very graphic.
Two complementary colours, (colours opposite each other on the colour wheel), red-violet and yellow, have been used to give a dramatic effect.
Using a round brush, the artist quickly applied a thin mixture of paint to outline smooth shapes on a muted background.
The artist painted short dashes to represent Christ’s ribs, dots to represent the nail holes in His feet and hands, and short darker dashes to represent His thorny crown. He painted a white/lavender vertical stroke to represent the blood and water that flowed from Christ’s side, after He was speared by a soldier. The yellow circle represents Christ’s resurrection and never ending, eternal life.
The painting is well balanced, and has a message of repentance and hope for the viewer.
Acrylic on Masonite, later career.
